So the new grand scheme is this: tackle my most recent tasting and pair it with the one for which I am most remiss, winnowing my way down to the middle.<br \/><\/font><\/font><\/div>\n<p><\/font><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" color=\"#000000\" face=\"Georgia\"><\/p>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><i>De extremis<\/i>. This entry will cover the long overdue&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rrvw.org\/single-vineyard-night-participating-wineries\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">A Single Night, Single Vineyards<\/a> alongside my most recent foray, the Grand Tasting from this year\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artisano.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Artisano<\/a> celebration, <font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Georgia\" size=\"2\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" color=\"#000000\" face=\"Georgia\">relocated from Geyserville to <\/font><\/font><\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vintnersinn.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">The Vintners Inn<\/a> of Santa Rosa. Being that <font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Georgia\" size=\"2\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" face=\"Georgia\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><b><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" color=\"#006633\">Sostevinobile<\/font><\/b><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font> has yet to open and generate a revenue stream, I am compelled to flip an imaginary coin and decide to lead with the old and segue into the new.<\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">While all of the wineries pouring at this second staging of <b><i>A Single Night<\/i><\/b> have previously been covered in this blog, this marqu\u00e9e event for the Russian River Valley Winegrowers took on a decidedly different tone this time around, and not simply because the venue had shifted from the courtyard at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdonatiello.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">C. Donatiello<\/a><i> (formerly Belvedere) <\/i>to the caves at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomasgeorgeestates.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Thomas George Estates<\/a><i> (formerly Davis Bynum)<\/i>. The inaugural celebration of these singularly-focused bottlings offered an undeniably millennial flair and seemed more like a slightly subdued frat party than a staid wine tasting. This year, a more mellow atmosphere brought out a more well-established, if not perceptibly older, attendance. Lady Gaga gives way to Bob Seger, <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SDTZ7iX4vTQ\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Pumped Up Kicks<\/a><\/i> cedes to <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tpprOGsLWUo\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Pump It Up<\/a>. <\/i>A paradigm shift or merely a shift in the economy\u2014I can only hazard a guess. <br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><i>N\u2019importa<\/i>. What matters here was the wine, which covered a wide gamut in terms of both variety and quality. In the interest of my oft-stated quest for brevity, I will highlight only discoveries<\/font><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Georgia\" size=\"2\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" color=\"#000000\" face=\"Georgia\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"> from my top-tier <\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"> for the evening, not so much in the same manner other writers grade the wines they sample, but more in line with scholastic honors. My corollary to <i>summa cum laude<\/i> started with the <b>2008 Estate Pinot Noir<\/b> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmondwines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Desmond Wines<\/a>, a Russian River winery singularly focused on vinting estate-grown Pinot. Rivaling this bottling was the <b>2008 Klopp Ranch Pinot Noir<\/b> from acclaimed producer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.merryedwards.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Merry Edwards<\/a>, the <b>2009 Ewald Vineyard Pinot Noir<\/b> from Adam Lee\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.siduri.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Siduri<\/a>, and a surprisingly delectable <b>2007 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley<\/b> from <a href=\"http:\/\/trionewinery.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Trione<\/a>.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Other wines that attained such lofty levels this day included an exceptional <b>2009 Bacigalupi Zinfandel<\/b> from <a href=\"http:\/\/gratonridge.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Graton Ridge Cellars<\/a> and the <b>2010 Estates Chardonnay<\/b> from host Thomas George. The <b>2008 Uncle Zio Syrah Gianna Maria<\/b> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martinelliwinery.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Martinelli<\/a> proved spectacularly lush, while their cousin Darek Trowbridge provided a deft touch with the <b>2005 Laughlin Vineyard Zinfandel<\/b> from his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oldworldwinery.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Old World Winery<\/a>. Sparkling wine virtuoso <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ironhorsevineyards.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Iron Horse<\/a> continued to impress me with their forays into still wine, exemplified here by their enchanting <b>2009 Rude Clone Chardonnay<\/b>. Lastly, the <b>2009 Benevolo Forte<\/b>, a rich port-style wine from a collaboration between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foppoliwines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Foppoli Wines<\/a> and some friends, rounded out the top tier.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">The next tier<i> (aka magna cum laude)<\/i> narrowly focused on a handful of Pinots, the <b>2008 Lolita Ranch Pinot Noir<\/b>, also from Martinelli, and Thomas George\u2019s <b>2008 Lancel Creek Pinot Noir<\/b>. My friends from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swanwinery.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Joseph Swan<\/a> held court with their elegant <b>2007 Trenton View Vineyard Pinot Noir<\/b>, while the fourth exemplar of this ranking came from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.benoviawinery.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Benovia<\/a>, whose <b>2008 Bella Una Pinot Noir<\/b>, while not a single vineyard bottling, constituted a blend of \u201cthe best possible expression of all of the sub-regions of<br \/>\nthe Russian River Valley.\u201d<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Though far more wines fell warranted a broader<i> cum laude<\/i>, it would be erroneous to consider such well-crafted bottlings commonplace. Still, Pinot Noir dominated once more, starting with the <b>2008 Siebert Ranch Pinot Noir<\/b> produced by <a href=\"http:\/\/ancientoakcellars.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Ancient Oak<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ballettovineyards.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Balletto Vineyards<\/a>\u2019 <b>2009 Single Vineyard Pinot Noir<\/b>. Desmond followed up its initial pouring with their <b>2009 Estate Pinot Noir<\/b>, a worthy albeit slightly less dramatic successor, while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lafollettewines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">La Follette<\/a> impressed with their <b>2009 DuNah Vineyard Pinot<\/b>. Others featuring comparably striking vintages included <a href=\"http:\/\/www.matrixwinery.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Matrix<\/a>, with their <b>2008 Nunes Ranch Pinot Noir<\/b>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nallewinery.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Nalle<\/a> with a splendid <b>2009 Hopkins Ranch Pinot Noir<\/b>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moshinvineyards.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Moshin<\/a>, pouring its <b>2009 Bacigalupi Vineyard Pinot Noir<\/b>, and the inveterate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.williamsselyem.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Williams Selyem<\/a>, which poured the <b>2008 Flax Vineyard Pinot Noir<\/b> from their vast repertoire of this varietal.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hopkilnwinery.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Georgia\" size=\"2\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" color=\"#000000\" face=\"Georgia\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"> <\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/a><font class=\"\">In addition to its sapid <b>2008 Oehlman Ranch Pinot Noir<\/b>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandolewines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Sandole<\/a> featured an equally pleasant <b>2008 Russian River Valley Zinfandel<\/b>. Hop Kiln<\/font> showcased two distinctive wines, their <b>2009 HKG Pinot Noir <\/b><\/font><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Georgia\" size=\"2\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" color=\"#000000\" face=\"Georgia\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><b> Bridge Selection<\/b> and its corollary, the <b>2009 Chardonnay Six Barrel Bridge Selection<\/b>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foppoliwines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Foppoli<\/a> shone with its Burgundian pair, as well: the <b>2009 Estate Vineyard Chardonnay<\/b> and the <b>2009 Late Harvest Pinot Noir<\/b>, an especial treat.<br \/><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Renowned vintner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.garyfarrellwinery.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Gary Farrell<\/a> also showcased his elegant <b>2008 Westside Farms Chardonnay<\/b>, while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rrvw.org\/wineries\/rrvw\/70\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Gordian Knot<\/a><i> (formerly Sapphire Hill) <\/i>debuted its current incarnation with a splendid <b>2010 Estate Albari\u00f1o<\/b>. Meanwhile, focusing on red varietals, <a href=\"http:\/\/johntylerwines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">John Tyler Wines<\/a> crafted an elegant <b>2006 Zinfandel<\/b> from their proprietary Bacigalupi Vineyards.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">I would have expected to find more Zins served at this event, but was even more surprised at the atypical selection of Bordelaise varietals <a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriamvineyards.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Merriam<\/a> poured\u2014not that their <b>2005 Windacre Merlot<\/b> wasn\u2019t an outstanding wine, as was their <b>2010 Willowside Sauvignon Blanc<\/b>. Trione\u2019s <b>2008 Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley<\/b> struck me as equally impressive, while their <b>2007 Syrah Russian River Valley <\/b>matched its intensity.<font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Georgia\" size=\"2\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" color=\"#000000\" face=\"Georgia\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"> Wrapping up my talley for the evening, host Thomas George again delivered with its <b>2008 Ulises Valdez Vineyard Syrah<\/b> and dazzled with its <b>2009 Pinot Blanc Saralee\u2019s Vineyard<\/b>, a distinctive selection for this distinguished gathering.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font>Not meaning to slight the other wineries who poured at <i><b>A Single Night<\/b><\/i>, but brevity demands I truncate my review and move onto my most recent foray. A whirlwind celebration of wine, food and art, <i><b>Artisano<\/b><\/i> focused on handcrafted, small production labels from the North Coast, though the preponderance of participating wineries heralded from Sonoma, as well. Many were well-familiar, but a handful new to <font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Georgia\" size=\"2\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" face=\"Georgia\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><b><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" color=\"#006633\">Sostevinobile<\/font><\/b><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font>. Nearly all had at least one wine that, as above, made the proverbial honor roll.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">A quartet of the wines scored at stratospheric levels\u2014these I will assay at the conclusion of my review. To commence at the same tier<i> (summa cum) <\/i>where my evaluations for <i><b>A Single Night<\/b><\/i> began, I found myself reveling in the <b>2009 Zinfandel<\/b> Alexander Valley\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.williamgordonwinery.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">William Gordon Winery<\/a> showcased. Across the patio, <a href=\"http:\/\/paulmathewvineyards.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Paul Mathew<\/a>\u2019s major opus turned out to be his <b>2008 TnT Vineyard Pinot Noir<\/b>. A new label from Ferrari-Carano <i>(which also owns Santa Rosa\u2019s Vintners Inn that hosted this gathering)<\/i>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prevailwines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">PreVail<\/a> transcended the garishness of their other endeavors and impressed with their <b>2006 Back Forty<\/b>, an elegantly textured Cabernet Sauvignon.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">In addition to its coveted buttons, <a href=\"http:\/\/pechmerlewinery.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Pech Merle<\/a> poured a wide array of their wines, prominently featuring the <b>2009 Russian River Valley Chardonnay<\/b> winemaker John Pepe crafted. Steve <a href=\"http:\/\/www.domenichelliwines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Domenichelli<\/a> dazzled with his <b>2007 Zinfandel<\/b>, one of but two wines his boutique operation produces. At a nearby table, my friend from Mendocino, John <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chiaritovineyard.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Chiarito<\/a>, returned with his trailblazing Sicilian transplant, the <b>2009 Nero d\u2019Avola<\/b> and an outstanding <b>2009 Estate Zinfandel<\/b>. Also charting comparable territory was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cartographwines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Cartograph<\/a>, with their <b>2009 Floodgate Vineyard Pinot Noir<\/b>.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><fon\nt style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Bill and Betsy Nachbaur finally accorded me a taste of their marvelous <b>2008 Dolcetto<\/b> at a private visit to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acornwinery.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Acorn<\/a> following <i><b>Artisano<\/b><\/i>, but here they most impressed with their <b>2008 Heritage Vines Zinfandel<\/b> from their Alegr\u00eda Vineyard. Somewhat paradoxically, Vince Ciolino of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montemaggiore.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Montemaggiore<\/a> produces no Italian varietals, despite a meticulous approach and organic practices that bespeak a Tuscan \u00e6sthetic; nevertheless, his <b>2007 Paolo\u2019s Vineyard Syrah<\/b> proved redolent of his Sicilian forbearers.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Georgia\" size=\"2\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" color=\"#000000\" face=\"Georgia\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><font class=\"\">Although <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denovowines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">De Novo<\/a><\/font> made a striking impression with their <b>2007 Pinot Noir Mendocino County<\/b>,<br \/>\nit proved only their second best wine of the afternoon. Similarly, I<br \/>\nwill briefly gloss over the choicest revelation from Old World Winery in<br \/>\nfavor of their alluringly floral <b>2009 Sauvignon Blanc Bon Tempe<\/b>. Also showing spectacularly with its whites, Cloverdale\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icariawine.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Icaria<\/a> soared to new heights with its <b>2010 Estate Chardonnay<\/b>.<br \/><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Georgia\" size=\"2\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" color=\"#000000\" face=\"Georgia\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">When well-crafted, Viognier can reveal an incomparable varietal, as exemplified here by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.starkwine.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Stark Wine<\/a> of Dry Creek\u2019s <b>2009 Viognier Damiano Vineyard<\/b>, which matched this pinnacle with a sister Rh\u00f4ne bottling, the <b>2009 Syrah Eaglepoint Vineyard<\/b>. Ulises <a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdezfamilywinery.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Valdez<\/a>, whose vineyards furnished Syrah for Thomas George, here showed his own deft touch for \u0153nology with the <b>2008 Silver Eagle Syrah<\/b> and a Rockpile standout, the <b>2008 Botticelli Zinfandel<\/b>.<br \/><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.respitewines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Respite<\/a> flourished with their red bottling,<b> 2008 Antics Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley<\/b>. Also from Geyserville, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.munsellevineyards.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Munselle Vineyards<\/a> enticed with a pair of superb bottlings, the<b> 2006 Coyote Crest Cabernet Sauvignon<\/b> and the equally compelling <b>2008 Zinfandel Osborn Ranch<\/b>. The award for consistency, however, undoubtedly belonged to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mirocellars.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Miro Cellars<\/a>, with all five of their selections garnering this premium score: the <b>2009 Windsor Oak Vineyard Pinot Noir<\/b>, the <b>2010 Grist Vineyard Zinfandel<\/b>, from atop Pride Mountain, the <b>2009 Cabernet Sauvignon<\/b>, winemaker Miroslav Tcholakov\u2019s signature <b>2010 Piccetti Vineyard Petite Sirah<\/b>, and the<b> 2010 Cuv\u00e9e Sasha<\/b>, a Grenache masterfully blended with 19% Mourv\u00e8dre and 6% Syrah.<\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Garnering middle honors, William Gordon returned with a <b>2008 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Personen Vineyard<\/b>, a wine that portends to blossom in the next 5-7 years. Paul Mathew featured two more Pinots, his <b>2008 Horseshoe Bend Vineyard Pinot Noir<\/b> and the <b>2008 Ruxton Vineyard Pinot Noir<\/b>. And again, Prevail prevailed with the <b>2006 West Face<\/b>, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 36% Syrah.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Both Pech Merle\u2019s new <b>2009 Merlot<\/b> and Domenichelli\u2019s <b>2007 Magnificent 7 Petite Sirah<\/b> offered vastly compelling wines, as was Chiarito\u2019s other Italian rarity, the<b> 2009 Negroamaro<\/b>. I especially delighted in Acorn\u2019s <b>2008 Cabernet Franc Alegr\u00eda Vineyard<\/b>, while relishing the <b>2008 Cabernet Sauvignon<\/b> De Novo provided.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Three wonderful Sauvignon Blancs came from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simoncinivineyards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Simoncini<\/a>, newly releasing their <b>2010 Sauvignon Blanc;<\/b> Alexander Valley\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reynosowines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Reynoso<\/a>, with their <b>2008 Sauvignon Blanc<\/b>; and the \u201cwe don\u2019t make Chardonnay\u201d offshoot of famed grower Robert Young, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kelleyyoungwines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Kelley &amp; Young<\/a>, who poured their <b>2010 Sauvignon Blanc<\/b>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.capturewines.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Capt\u00fbre<\/a> also poured a top-flight <b>2010 Tradition Sauvignon Blanc<\/b> and matched it with their <b>2010 Ma Vie Carol Chardonnay<\/b>, while my friends Jim and Christina <a href=\"http:\/\/www.landyvineyards.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Landy<\/a> impressed with their <b>2009 Chardonnay Russian River Valley<\/b>.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<p><\/font><\/font><\/font><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Georgia\" size=\"2\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" face=\"Georgia\"><\/p>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">I deliberately maintain my ignorance when it comes to comprehending derivatives and other vehicles of the options market\u2014such contrivances just seem antithetical to everything <b><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" color=\"#006633\">Sostevinobile<\/font><\/b>&nbsp;espouses, so terminology like the trading positions known as <font class=\"\" style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.investorplace.com\/2010\/01\/long-gamma-position\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Long Gamma<\/a><\/font> seems rather oblique to me; nonetheless, the accomplished <a href=\"http:\/\/www.longgamma.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">winery<\/a> bearing same name produced an excellent wine with little statistical deviation, the <b style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">2007 Red<\/b>, a Zinfandel blended with 25% Syrah and 5% Petite Sirah. Montemaggiore countered with their <b style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">2005 Nobile<\/b>, a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon with 36% Syrah. And natural wine proponents <b style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Arnot-Roberts<\/b> hedged their bets with their unequivocal <b style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">2009 Syrah Griffin\u2019s Lair Vineyard<\/b>.<\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">At<i><b> Artisano\u2019s <\/b>cum laude<\/i> level, a variety of different wines offered compelling tastings. Again, William Gordon impressed with their <b>2009 Petit Verdot<\/b>. Paralleling his red Burgundians, Paul Mathew featured a rich <b>2010 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay<\/b>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.musettawines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Musetta<\/a>\u2019s <b>2009 Zinfandel<\/b> handily made the grade, as did the <b>2008 Landy Zinfandel<\/b> from Valdez.<\/font><\/div>\n<p><\/font><\/font><\/font><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Georgia\" size=\"2\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" color=\"#000000\" face=\"Georgia\"><\/p>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\">Other standout Zins included De Novo\u2019s <b>2006 Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley<\/b>, the <b>2008 Estate Zinfandel<\/b> from Simoncini, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sainivineyards.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Saini<\/a>\u2019s<b> 2008 Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley<\/b>. Pech Merle impressed with both its <b>2009 Dry Creek Zinfandel <\/b>and the <b>2009 Sauvignon Blanc<\/b>, while Anderson Valley\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foursightwines.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Foursight<\/a> paired their <b>2009 Charles Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc<\/b> and a delightful <b>2009 Charles Vineyard Pinot Noir<\/b>.<\/div>\n<p><\/font><\/font><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" color=\"#000000\" face=\"Georgia\"><\/p>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255,\n255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">I happily cottoned to the <b>2009 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir<\/b> Landy poured, then wrapped up this segment with an wide array of varietals and blends, starting with the <b>2010 Kathleen Rose<\/b> from Kelley &amp; Young, a Bordeaux-style ros\u00e9 crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. Capt\u00fbre\u2019s <b>2009 Harmonie<\/b> combined the same complement of varietals <i>(sans Malbec)<\/i> for a captivating Meritage, while Montemaggiore\u2019s <b>2010 3 Divas <\/b>blended the classic Rh\u00f4ne white tercet: Roussanne, Marsanne, and Viognier.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<p><\/font><\/font><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" color=\"#000000\" face=\"Georgia\"><\/p>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Rounding out this level, I found the <b>2010 Floodgate Vineyard Gew\u00fcrztraminer<\/b> Cartograph poured a most refreshing contrast, and had little trouble regaling in the <b>2008 Shadrach Chardonnay<\/b> from Munselle. As always, the <b>2008 Sangiovese Alegr\u00eda Vineyard<\/b> Acorn served up proved most impressive; so, too, was the <b>2007 Cabernet Sauvignon<\/b> from Kenny Kahn\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluerockvineyard.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Blue Rock<\/a>.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<p><\/font><\/font><\/font><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Georgia\" size=\"2\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Times\" size=\"2\"><font style=\"outline-style: none; font-size: 13px;\" color=\"#000000\" face=\"Georgia\"><\/p>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">As alluded above, four wines poured here achieved rarefied stature\u2014<b>\u03a6\u0392\u039a<\/b><i><\/i>, so to speak. Winemaker Justin Miller\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gardencreekvineyards.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Garden Creek<\/a> showcased an amazing rendition of their Meritage, the <b>2005 Tesserae<\/b>, which, unlike its predecessors, could not be fully classified as a Cabernet\u2014rather, a true Bordeaux mosaic of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Franc. All in all, an amazing Alexander Valley vintage.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">De Novo\u2019s best effort turned out to be another Burgundian, their <b>2008 Pinot Noir Bennett Valley<\/b>, a spectacularly rich rendition of this subtle varietal. At the same threshold, Old World Winery floored me with their new <b>2009 Abourious Russian River Valley<\/b><i> (little wonder, with a wine this lush, why Darek chose to pluralize the varietal)<\/i>. His previous endeavor with Abouriou, also known as Early Burgundy, the <b>2008 Fulton Foderol<\/b>, was actually a blend with Zinfandel that masked much of its character; here, the unfettered expression seemed nothing short of glorious.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Finally, I must bestow my all-too-rarely accorded <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.quickblogcast.com\/3\/7\/4\/7\/5\/167304-157473\/4Star.jpg?a=64\" style=\"border: 0px solid;\" height=\"14\" width=\"61\"> to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.skipstoneranch.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Skipstone<\/a> for their flawless <b>2008 Oliver\u2019s Blend<\/b>, a Cabernet Sauvignon rounded with a mere 4% Cabernet Franc. Wines like this can only cement Alexander Valley\u2019s richly deserved reputation, along with Napa Valley and Washington\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Red_Mountain_AVA\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Red Mountain<\/a> as worthy rivals to Bordeaux<i> (I think it\u2019s still a safe bet we can rule out <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/chinarealtime\/2011\/12\/15\/ningxia-beats-bordeaux-or-does-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Ningxia<\/a> from this category)<\/i>.<br \/><\/font><\/div>\n<div style=\"outline-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 3px; background-image: none ! important; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" align=\"left\"><font style=\"font-size: 13px;\">As with <i><b>A Single Night<\/b><\/i>, I intend no offense toward those wineries that generously shared their best efforts at <i><b>Artisano<\/b><\/i> but have been bypassed here for the sake of <i>(relative) <\/i>brevity. My goal of timeliness is another matter entirely, remaining ever elusive as I struggle to balance not only the competing demands I face in turning <font color=\"006633\"><b>Sostevinobile<\/b><\/font> into a working reality, source funding for <font color=\"990000\"><b>COMUNALE<\/b><\/font>, and negotiate contracts for my SmartPhone development, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rescuetag.co\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">ResCue<i>\u2122<\/i><\/a><i> (the acquisition of which could easily provide the wherewithal to launch my empassioned wine ventures)<\/i>.
